Message from the President: Communio

Aug. 1, 2012

To our alumni friends,

As I write this, over 130 Norbertine priests and nuns representing houses from around the world are gathering on the SNC campus for their every-six-year General Chapter. Since this is only the second time in the order's nine centuries that the Chapter has met outside Europe, we are particularly pleased to welcome them and we are prepared to show them some real SNC-style communio!

We'd like to invite you and your families to experience some campus communio as well. On Saturday, September 22, the college will celebrate its fourth annual SNC Day. This campus-wide open house for the entire community attracted over 15,000 visitors last year, and we're anticipating that more folks will be attending this time.

There are lots of activities planned. Here are just a few highlights: boat rides on the Fox River, two stages of music and entertainment, loads of children's activities, horse-drawn wagon rides through campus, lectures by SNC profs and an art/craft show. A trolley will be on hand to transport folks to and from Schneider Stadium, where there is free admission to the SNC vs. Carroll football game.  Except for a minimal charge for the boat rides, all activities are free.

We also have some new events planned this year. That morning we'll host the first annual Don Schneider Memorial Challenge Run. This 5K race honors our longtime trustee, friend and avid runner, Don Schneider. The race will include some challenging obstacles and will begin under the arch on Third Street at 8 a.m. Runners will proceed south on Third, through Schneider Stadium, down Lost Dauphin and loop back to finish near Schuldes Sports Center on Marsh Street. Medals will be awarded to the top finishers, and long-sleeve T-shirts with a logo designed by the SNC art department will be given to each participant. If you're a runner, you won't want to miss it!

The new Michels Commons will be open for tours. And to showcase this facility as a venue for weddings, Christmas parties and other special events, we're holding a wedding/special event show in the upstairs ballroom that day. Cake, flower, linen, food and other vendors will be on hand to showcase their wares and offer samples. We hope that future brides, grooms and anyone planning a big event will come to see all that we can offer.

Please come join us for a fun, family-friendly, fantastic day on September 22. For more information on the day's activities, please go to www.sncday.com.
