Message from the President: SNC Day
Sept. 14, 2012
To our alumni friends:
The academic year is off to a good start and the campus is buzzing with activity. The weather has been glorious, just right for our annual SNC Day event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22. We hope you'll be able to join us for this family-centered campus open house -- there are many free activities for all to participate in!
During the day you'll be able to enjoy a boat ride on the Fox River, two stages of music and entertainment, including some of the region's best bands -- Big Mouth, Nashville Pipeline, Boogie and the Yo-Yo'z, Frogwater, and a strolling barbershop quartet. There will be inflatables for the kids and a tent with loads of activities just for them, as well as face-painting and balloon artists. You'll also be able to jump on the trolley to Schneider Stadium to enjoy the SNC-Carroll football game. Some of our most respected faculty members will be giving mini-lectures on topics ranging from "Shakespeare's Maxims for Life" to "Physics under Pressure." Campus buildings will be open for tours and our admission staff will be on hand in the Ariens Welcome Center should you have a prospective student who is interested in speaking with them. Wellness activities -- hula-hooping, Zumba, Jazzercize -- are offered, and the art and crafts vendors section is sure to be a popular stop.
This year we're adding two new events. In recognition of SNC alum, former trustee and avid runner Don Schneider '57, we're hosting the Don Schneider Memorial Challenge 5K Run. The run has five obstacles, including climbing a hay-bale mountain, jumping hurdles, climbing stairs, tire-stepping and crawling under an obstacle. The race begins at 8 a.m. that day and you can pre-register at the SNC Day website: www.snc.edu/sncday. Registrations will also be accepted at Schuldes Sports Center Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., or Saturday morning from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. All participants will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt with a logo designed by the SNC art department, plus a headband.
In order to showcase our new Michels Commons, tours of Ruth's Marketplace and Dale's Sports Lounge will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. And, we're holding a special event/wedding show featuring local floral, linen, cake, music, travel and formal-wear vendors. If you're planning a wedding or special event, come check out the ballroom of the Commons.
A complete list of activities can be found at http://www.sncday.com
There will be food and fun for all, and we hope you'll pack up the family next Saturday and join us for this very special day on the St. Norbert College campus.
