FAQ's
Where does my money go?
The Senior Class Gift Scholarship (SCGS). Through the SCGS, contributions made to the St. Norbert Fund (the College’s annual fund and top fundraising priority) will "pay it forward" by providing a scholarship for one of next year's SNC seniors. The SCGS is
students giving to students - what better example of the Norbertine lesson of service brought to life.
While the objective is to have the class collectively support the Senior Class Gift Scholarship, individual seniors may choose the area to which their gift is directed.
What is the SCG goal?
That’s easy…100% participation! Just think, if the Class of 2008 achieves 100% participation in the Senior Class Gift campaign YOUR CLASS will hold an UNBREAKABLE SCG record.
You will be able to track the success of your class campaign against each new senior class via the SCG website. Here you will see a list, by graduation year, of class participation rates and dollars raised as well as a bio of the SCGS recipients.
Why should I give to the SCG?
Give because:
-
you care
-
you want future students to have the same opportunities and amazing experiences you had
-
you understand that the strength and vitality of St. Norbert College is reliant on the support of alumni and you want to carry on the senior tradition
-
you or some of your friends might not have been able to come to SNC without the financial aid funded by contributions from alumni and friends of St. Norbert College
- you have an opportunity to make your gift in honor of or in memory of a person who has been integral in your education and has made a difference in your life
-
your gift is tax deductible
-
you want to leave a lasting legacy from the Class of 2008 and set a standard for future graduating seniors
-
you want your name, honoree, and dedication listed on the SCG website for participating
I already gave thousands of dollars in tuition. Does SNC really need more from me?
Tuition only covers a portion of the cost of your education. The rest is subsidized by alumni and friends who make gifts like yours to SNC. These gifts provide a
“hidden” scholarship for
every single student on campus even those who may not have received financial aid.
I don’t have any money/I can only afford a small amount – my contribution won’t matter.
Oh yes it will!
By joining together with your classmates, even gifts that may seem small to you will combine with similar gifts to create impact. If every senior gave just $10 (the cost of 10 iTunes downloads) the total Senior Class Gift would be more than
$4,500. Your gift could be in lieu of a movie, coffee or soda and a snack from Phil’s.
Why does my participation matter?
In addition to there being power in numbers (see above response to “…my contribution won’t matter”), participation in giving by alumni helps
-
provide direct support to the people who need it the most…students!
-
send a signal to alumni, parents, friends, and employees of SNC that you value your education and will inspire them to give too.
-
ensure that SNC remains a nationally recognized institution, making your St. Norbert College degree even more valued and respected. US News & World Report counts participation when ranking colleges. It believes levels of giving reflect the satisfaction of students and alumni.
-
impact both public and private grants that are awarded to colleges based in part on their alumni giving percentages. Why should a major company provide us with a grant or significant funding if our alumni don't make gifts of any size? Every alumni gift matters significantly.
Don’t other causes need my money more than SNC?
There are many, many worthy causes to support and members of the SNC community generously contribute to a wide range of causes – humanitarian, religious, social, environmental, political, cultural, medical, and educational. We encourage you to support the causes about which you feel passionately. We hope that St. Norbert College is on that list.
Your gift will support the College to educate and prepare students who, like you, will go on to leadership roles in their communities, their professions, and society as responsible citizens of a diverse, interdependent, changing world. SNC relies on a limited community of potential supporters – our students, alumni, parents, friends, and staff. These are also the individuals who best understand the impact of the college’s teaching on our students, the community, and society at large.
How much should I give?
Participation is the key to a successful campaign. Customarily, seniors give in the amount reflecting their graduating year,
but your participation - at any level - is what's most important. Whether you give the encouraged $20.08, $5, or $50 a gift of any amount is greatly appreciated - ALL GIFTS MATTER!!
I want to participate! How do I make my Senior Class Gift?
You can make your gift with your Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover card
online using our secure web site. Gifts made by check and or cash may be brought to the Advancement Office located on third floor of Main Hall M-F 8am-4:30pm, or by appointment if after hours.
