Library

A gift that speaks volumes

In the quarter century since our current library was remodeled from a campus dormitory, changes in the way we access information have dramatically increased the service demands an academic library must meet. Today’s academic libraries are full participants in the generation of new ideas, integrating print and electronic resources, as well as supporting educational, collaborative and social functions. This is why now is the time to create the first building in St. Norbert College’s 109-year history designed exclusively to be a library.

Alumna Miriam B. and James J. Mulva have pledged the lead gift toward construction of the new library, which will be named in their honor. The library will be located at the southwest corner of Third Street and College Avenue. Nationally acclaimed architect Joe Rizzo of Hillier Architecture has been working with the College community to finalize plans for the library. Ensuring that the College remains on the leading edge of learning opportunities, the approximately 80,000 square foot Miriam B. and James J. Mulva Library will provide space for a 50% expansion of the library collections.

The Miriam B. and James J. Mulva Library will combine traditional and technologically innovative ways of learning that will connect our students to the knowledge of the world. The Information Commons will provide a research environment for accessing integrated print, computer media and microfilm formats of reference material and databases. A 24-hour computer study will be accessible even when the library is closed. High-tech classrooms, group study rooms and the Writing Center will help students use the information now at their disposal. Snacks, salads, sandwiches, and beverages will be available for busy library patrons. Exhibits of Heritage materials and artwork will further connect the new library to the mission and long history of St. Norbert College.

Fundraising for the library is a top priority, and this remarkable library can only be built with the support of St. Norbert College’s generous private donors. For more information, contact College Advancement at (920) 403-3016 or advancement@snc.edu.
