Into the Streets Saturday, August 25
The St. Norbert College community embarked on a day of community service Saturday, August 25. Once a service project for incoming freshmen, “Into the Streets” welcomed alumni to join students and staff in service to the community. The opening ceremony hosted by President Bill Hynes, Mayor Mike Walsh (De Pere) and Mayor Jim Schmitt ’80 (Green Bay) welcomed students and alumni to the College campus and to the greater community of St. Norbert College encouraging everyone to become active citizens through their service and actions. Following the rally, community service took place in 27 different locations with over 350 students, faculty and staff participating. Sites were as follows: Paul’s Pantry, St. Vincent DePaul, Salvation Army, Baird Creek Preservation Foundation, Green Bay Park and Rec., Marion House, Green Bay Botanical Gardens, Freedom House, American Red Cross, National Railroad Museum, Ft. Howard Family Resource Center, Golden House, House of Hope, Neighborhood Housing Service of Green Bay, Art Street, Tsyunhehkwa Center, Worldgoods Fairtrade Shop, St. John the Evangelist Church, American Cancer Society, Highway Cleanup, Altrusa House, Brown County Extension Office, Ecumenical Partnership for Housing, Izaak Walton League, New Arts Council, New Community Shelter, Optimist Park and the Swan House.
