DE PERE - St. Norbert College's men's basketball team is ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III pre-season ranking by Sporting News in its 2010-11 college basketball preview magazine.

The Green Knights return all five starters from a team who won a school-record 23 games last season, and lost to eventual national champion UW-Stevens Point in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Senior guards David Wipperfurth and John Taylor, senior forwards Paul Mallers and Steve Papke and senior center Chris Peterson all return as starters. Wipperfurth was the leading scorer last season at 15.3 points per game, while Peterson netted 13.7 points with 5.4 rebounds per game. Taylor averaged 10.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

St. Norbert is one of three Wisconsin teams ranked in the Sporting News' Top 10. UW-Stevens Point is ranked No. 1, and UW-Whitewater is No. 8. Completing the top five are Franklin & Marshall (Pa.) at No. 2, Randolph-Macon (Va.) at No. 3 and Wooster (Ohio) at No. 4.

The Green Knights open the 2010-11 season on Nov. 15 at Marian University. St. Norbert's home opener is Nov. 23 at Schuldes Sports Center against Elmhurst College.
