St. Norbert Tips UW-River Falls in Season Opener

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College won four of six singles matches to rally past UW-River Falls in a non-conference season opener at Western Racquet.

The Green Knights snapped a three-match losing streak to the Falcons, winning for the first time since a 7-2 win on Sept. 8, 2006.

St. Norbert won the Nos. 3-6 flights to claim the win. Callie Schroeder picked up the decisive win with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) triumph at No. 3. Anna Reardon beat Cassie Swenson 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4, while Ariel Bloniarz beat Maggie Kregness 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5. Laura Michel won at No. 6 with a win over Courtney Swanson 6-1, 6-2.

River Falls took two of three doubles matches to stake it to an early 2-1 lead. Schroeder and Kelly Van Handel won at No. 1 doubles, beating Amanda Drangeid and Johnson 8-2.
