St. Norbert Routs Knox For Season's First Win

GALESBURG, Ill. - St. Norbert College rolled up 35 first-half points to cruise to its first win of the 2010 season in a 49-0 Midwest Conference triumph over Knox College at the Knosher Bowl.

The Green Knights, who had started to 0-2 for the first since 1997, are now 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the MWC. Knox dropped to 0-3, 0-2. St. Norbert scored touchdowns on seven of its first eight possessions, and lost a fumble at the Knox 3-yard line on the possession it didn't score on.

St. Norbert piled up a whopping 703 yards of total offense, including a gaudy 356 yards on the ground. The Green Knights' defense also did their part, holding the Prairie Fire to 192 yards.

The Green Knights led 14-0 after the first quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run by John Weninger and a 77-yard touchdown pass from Rob Berger to Nick Wilson.

Berger had touchdown runs of 10 and 3 yards in the second quarter, and Berger hooked up with Joe Green on an 11-yard touchdown pass for a 35-0 halftime lead.

Berger had a 7-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter, and Mike Fabrizio found Jacob Dault on a 7-yard scoring pass later in the period for St. Norbert's final score.

St. Norbert had four scoring drives of at least 80 yards in the game. The Green Knights piled up 31 first downs and had the ball for 35:50.

Berger completed 15 of 18 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns, and had three rushing touchdowns for 62 yards on eight carries. Weninger had 105 yards on 16 carries.
