DE PERE - St. Norbert College opened its women's hockey program in grand style with a 2-0 win over Bethel University in a non-conference game at the Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The Green Knights got an all-around team effort to claim a victory in their first-ever intercollegiate contest. It was both team's season openers.

St. Norbert jumped the Royals on the opening shift, scoring 22 seconds into the game. Lauren Straus poked home a loose puck past Bethel goaltender Jess Newstrom for the first goal in program history. Zoe Kurth was credited with an assist on the goal.

The Green Knights made that goal stand up all the way through the middle of the third period, when Kurth scored an insurance marker at 10:17, with Straus assisting.

St. Norbert outshot Bethel 30-28, and the Green Knights were 0-for-2 on the power play and the Royals 0-for-1.

Katie Aluia started in net for St. Norbert and was credited with the win, making 15 saves in 33 minutes. Kaley Gibson made 13 stops for the Green Knights in 27 minutes of relief. Newstrom made 28 saves for the Royals.
