GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College jumped right into the new men's hockey season with conference action and topped UW-Stout 2-0 in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights opened their season with a conference game for the first time in 10 years. Stout played its third game of the season and fell to 1-2 overall, 0-1 NCHA.

Brandon Longley scored 12 seconds into the game to give the Green Knights a quick lead. His score matched the St. Norbert record for fastest goal to start a game, with Matt Stearns also scoring 12 seconds into a game against Stout on Jan. 29, 2000.

The Green Knights didn't score again until early in the third period. Alain Joanette scored at 2:03 of the period. Carl Ekstrom then scored with 59 seconds left for St. Norbert's final goal. Russ Whited scored for Stout with 12 seconds to go.

Stout goaltender Tom Lescovich kept the Blue Devils in the game, making several difficult saves en route to a 46-save performance. St. Norbert's B.J. O'Brien made 19 saves to narrowly miss a shutout.

The Green Knights outshot Stout 49-20, and were whistled for only three minor penalties. Stout was 0-for-3 on the power play, and St. Norbert was 0-for-5.
