St. Norbert Wins MWC Title as Scherer Claims Individual Championship

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College won the Midwest Conference women's cross country championship for the first time since 2003 with a stellar team performance at Gibson Woods Golf Course.

Senior Jenny Scherer won her second MWC individual title to go along with her 2008 championship. Scherer is unbeaten in six races this fall.

St. Norbert put together a dominating team effort to win its fifth Midwest Conference title. The Green Knights scored 31 points to finish well ahead of runner-up Monmouth College's 51 points.

Scherer covered the 6-kilometer course with ease, finishing with a time of 21 minutes 6 seconds. Monmouth's Mary Kate Beyer was second at 21:53.

Amanda Whipple finished fourth overall for the Green Knights with a time of 22:58. Carrie Trina was sixth in 23:16, and Kelsey Timm placed ninth in 23:26. Hannah Andrekus completed the St. Norbert scoring with an 11th-place finish in 23:37.

Sara Hasenjager had St. Norbert's sixth-best time with a 24th-place finish in 24:15. Elvia Martinez was 27th overall with a finish of 24:20.

St. Norbert coach Don Augustine was named Midwest Conference Coach of the Year.
