Green Knights Score Big Win at St. Catherine

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, Minn. - St. Norbert College picked up the biggest win of its young women's hockey program history with a 4-1 win over St. Catherine University at the Veterans Memorial Community Center.

The Green Knights (2-1) held a 2-1 lead after the first period and went on from there to top the Wildcats (1-1), who went 18-5-2 last year and were picked to finish second in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference pre-season coaches' poll this season.

St. Norbert jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 11 minutes. Brooke Nicholson scored her first goal of the year off an assist from Laurel hill at the 5 minute 59 seconds mark. Andrea Senne then scored her first marker with Karissa Anderson assisting at 10:46. St. Catherine's Cassie Rooney scored an unassisted power-play goal at 19:22 to halve the deficit.

St. Norbert's last two goals were power-play scores. Senne scored her second goal of the game at 14:31 of the second period, while Alexa Jacobson scored 8:51 of the third. Anderson finished with two assists for the game.

The Green Knights outshot St. Catherine 29-26 and were 2-for-8 on the power play. The Wildcats were 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

Kaley Gibson made 25 saves in net for St. Norbert, while Mel Gerten made 25 stops for the Wildcats.
