St. Norbert Slides Past Lake Forest 2-1

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College used a pair of power-play goals in the second period to eke past its most-played rival, Lake Forest College, 2-1 in a non-conference game at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

St. Norbert, ranked No. 3 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, improved to 8-1. Lake Forest, which has faced the Green Knights 64 times, fell to 2-5.

It marked St. Norbert's sixth-straight win despite the Green Knights not scoring more than three goals in any of the triumphs. St. Norbert has outscored its opponents 15-7 during its winning streak.

St. Norbert and Lake Forest skated to a 0-0 tie after the first period despite the Green Knights taking a major contact to the head penalty late in the stanza.

The Green Knights broke through at 15:35 of the second period on a 5-on-3 power-play goal by Seth Soley. Alain Joanette gave St. Norbert a 2-0 lead at 19:14 when he knocked home a 4-on-3 power-play goal.

Those two goals would hold up for St. Norbert, which allowed only a Lake Forest goal by Zach Kozak at 10:46 of the third period.

St. Norbert outshot Lake Forest 36-27 and was 2-for-6 on the power play. The Foresters were 0-for-5 with the extra man.

Mike Martin made 26 saves in net for St. Norbert to improve to 2-0 in his collegiate career. Marc Stuart turned away 34 shots for the Foresters.
