St. Norbert Pulls Away From Beloit

BELOIT - St. Norbert College slowly pulled away to remain unbeaten in the Midwest Conference with a 74-53 win over Beloit College at Flood Arena.

The Green Knights improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the MWC with the win, while Beloit dropped to 1-5, 0-3.

Beloit held an 18-17 lead with 9 minutes 21 seconds left in the first half, but St. Norbert would score 16 points before halftime to take a 33-27 lead. The Green Knights went on a 12-3 run to take a 29-21 lead with 5:42 left before the half, with back-to-back 3-pointers by Krista Hawkinson starting the run.

The Buccaneers would get a 3-pointer by Kandace Fox to open the second half to trail 33-30, but St. Norbert went on a quick 8-0 run to take control for good. Beloit would not get closer than 11 points in the final 15 minutes.

St. Norbert received a balanced scoring effort. Stefanie Bunday and Krista Pelky each had 14 points. Jamie Kuhl tallied 12 points and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds. Erin Baganz added 10 points. The Green Knights shot 44.3 percent (27-for-61) from the floor and committed just seven turnovers. St. Norbert also held a 38-24 rebounding advantage, including 19 offensive leading to 18 second-chance points.

Fox led Beloit with 19 points, while Diana Sopkowicz and Amanda Moore each added 13 points. The Buccaneers shot 45 percent (18-for-40) from the floor but had 20 turnovers.
