St. Norbert Tumbles at Beloit

BELOIT - St. Norbert College suffered its first loss of the 2010-11 season with a 62-50 Midwest Conference setback at Beloit College's Flood Arena.

The Green Knights, ranked No. 6 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, fell to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the MWC. Beloit improved to 2-4, 2-2.

St. Norbert trailed 24-19 at halftime after shooting 29.2 percent (7-for-24) from the floor in the first 20 minutes and could never quite catch up in the second half. St. Norbert led 19-17 with 4 minutes 28 seconds left in the first half but the Buccaneers closed out the first half on a 7-0 run.

Beloit pushed its lead to 28-19 2 1/2 minutes into the second half on a David Bremner jumper. The Green Knights then went on an 8-0 run over the next 4 minutes to cur the deficit down to 28-27. St. Norbert again closed to within one at 33-32 with 11:51 left on a Brandon Gries basket, but the Green Knights would get no closer the rest of the way. Following John Taylor's basket with 8:28 left to get within 43-36, St. Norbert wouldn't hit another field goal until 2:19 remained.

St. Norbert was 18-for-52 (34.6 percent) from the floor and a horrid 8-for-18 (44.4 percent) at the free-throw line. The Green Knights outrebounded Beloit 37-30 and had only nine turnovers. Taylor led St. Norbert with 13 points, while Chris Peterson added 10.

Beloit cashed in at the free-throw line, making 24 of 31 attempts (77.4 percent) as St. Norbert fouled 27 times, with only five of those coming in the last two minutes. Bremner scored 21 points to led the Buccaneers, while Patrick Kenny and Travis Towns each had 11.
