GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College scored the last three goals of the game to pull away and claim a 6-3 win in an entertaining Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights, ranked No. 1 in USCHO.com's Division III Poll, improved to 14-2 overall and 8-1 in the NCHA. Eau Claire, which had won seven of its last eight coming in, fell to 10-6, 4-5. The two teams will complete the two-game series at 7 p.m. Saturday.

St. Norbert carried a 3-2 lead into the third period. Eau Claire tied the game at 3-3 at the 7 minutes 50 seconds mark on a power-play goal by Isaiah Bennis. The Green Knights answered two minutes later on a Seth Soley goal. St. Norbert scored again 49 seconds later to make it 5-3 when Kyle Stroh scored a power-play marker. Alain Joanette finished with a power-play goal with 34 seconds left to close out the scoring.

Kurt Astle scored his first goal of the season 1:42 into the game to give St. Norbert the early lead. Eau Claire answered on a goal by Kurt Weston at the 6:38 mark, but the Green Knights would get the goal back on a one-time bomb from Nick Tabisz from the right slot at 7:33.

Eau Claire's Jordan Singer squared the game at 2-2 2:38 into the second. That score held up until Brandon Longley's shot off the back boards caromed in off the back of Eau Claire goaltender Brandon Stephenson's skate just 48 seconds before second intermission.

Tabisz and Stroh each had two assists to give them three-point games.

St. Norbert outshot Eau Claire 34-28, but the Green Knights were 3-for-5 on the power play. Eau Claire was 1-for-7.

St. Norbert goaltender B.J. O'Brien made 25 saves, including a breakaway stop on an Eau Claire shorthanded attempt just prior to Tabisz's goal. Stephenson made 28 saves for Eau Claire.
