Green Knights Blow It Open In Second Half at Lawrence

APPLETON - St. Norbert College canned 3-pointers on four consecutive possessions to break open a close game and went on to defeat Lawrence University 76-41 in a Midwest Conference game at Alexander Gym.

The Green Knights improved to 15-2 overall and 11-1 in the MWC. Lawrence remained winless at 0-16 and 0-11.

St. Norbert, playing without two regulars, slogged its way through a first half taking only a 28-20 halftime lead. The Vikings cut their deficit to 31-25 with 18:30 left on a Cathy Kaye 3-pointer, but St. Norbert would then go on an 11-0 run over the next two minutes to finally break the game open.

Erin Baganz, Krista Hawkinson, Krista Pelky and Baganz again hit 3-pointers on four straight trips down the floor for a 40-25 lead, and Jamie Kuhl's layup put the Green Knights ahead 42-25 with 16:35 left. St. Norbert, which played 14 players, held a 48-21 scoring edge in the second half over Lawrence, which played only eight.

Thirteen of the 14 players who saw action for St. Norbert scored. Pelky's 12 points and Baganz's 11 were the the only two double-figure totals for the Green Knights. St. Norbert shot 46 percent from the floor, making 29 of 63 shots.

Lawrence was led by Katie Van Es' 16 points, and Nakita Chadwick added 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Vikings shot 32.7 percent (17-for-52) from the floor and had 31 turnovers.
