Rally Lifts St. Norbert to Tie With No. 1 UW-River Falls

RIVER FALLS - St. Norbert College rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 tie with UW-River Falls in the first game of a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association O'Brien Cup Playoffs quarterfinal series at Hunt Arena.

The Green Knights (12-10-4) have given unbeaten and No. 1-ranked River Falls (22-0-4) two of its four ties this season. The two teams will play the second game of series at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the winner advancing to the semifinal round. If the game is again a tie, the two teams will play a 20-minute mini-game after the regulation contest.

Lauren Conrad and Alyssa Jackson scored goals at 7:52 and 10:07 of the second period to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Laurel Hill answered with her second goal of the year at 14:25 of the second period to halve the deficit to 2-1 after two periods.

The game remained that way until Zoe Kurth scored the equalizer on an unassisted marker with just 1:47 left in regulation time. It was her 11th goal of the season.

River Falls outshot St. Norbert 33-19, including 3-2 in the 5-minute overtime. Kaley Gibson made 31 saves for the Green Knights, while Cassi Campbell made 17 stops for the Falcons. S
