St. Norbert Wins MWC Opener Over Ripon

OSHKOSH - St. Norbert College opened Midwest Conference North Division play with a 9-0 blanking of Ripon College at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

The Green Knights, who also lost 8-1 to UW-Oshkosh, are now 7-9 on the year and 1-0 in the MWC North.

Derek Harrington and Nick Acosta opened doubles action with an 8-0 win over Sam Ewig and Alex Tande at No. 1. Tim Hartwick and Danny Meicher followed with an 8-4 win over Derrick Winterhack and Jackson Vogel at No. 2. Matt Lobeck and Josh Sweere won at No. 3 with an 8-1 win over David Garcia and Xia Xiong.

Harrington topped Winterhack at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1. Hartwick tipped Ewig 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2, while Lobeck defeated Vogel 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. Acosta followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Tande at No. 4, and Sweere beat Jeffrey Mehlert 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5. Kyle Sauer finished the sweep at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 rout of Xiong.

Against UW-Oshkosh, Meicher picked up the Green Knights' lone win at No. 6 singles with a 6-4, 2-6, 13-11 win over Josh Hopfensperger.
