Green Knights Split Again With Pioneers

DE PERE - St. Norbert College split its four-game series with Carroll University with its second doubleheader split in as many days. The Green Knights took the opener of the Midwest Conference twinbill 7-0 before dropping the nightcap 8-3 at Mel Nicks Field.

The Green Knights are now 8-10 overall on the season and 2-2 in the MWC North Division. Carroll is 6-14, 3-5.

St. Norbert had 12 hits in the opener, getting three each from Matt Hannon and Ryan Way. Garrick Fisher's sacrifice fly plated a run in the third, while Jared Yost's RBI single in the fifth made it 2-0. Way had an RBI single in the seventh prior to a four-run eighth. Jordan Powers had a two-run single and Yost an RBI double in the uprising.

Kevin Nutley picked up his first collegiate win on the mound, going 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Kyle Mahlik and Carl Vanko tossed 1 1/3 innings of relief.

The Green Knights fell behind 8-1 in the nightcap and couldn't recover. St. Norbert mustered seven hits, with Yost going 3-for-4 and Chad Ljunggren 2-for-3.

Mahlik took the loss, going 4 2/3 innings allowing seven hits and four runs with two walks and three strikeouts.
