BELOIT - St. Norbert College picked up a split in the first two games of a four-game series with Beloit College, winning 10-3 and losing 6-5 in a pair of Midwest Conference games at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium.

The Green Knights (11-11, 5-3 MWC) are battling with Beloit (19-9, 11-3 MWC) and Ripon (13-14, 7-3 MWC) for two spots in the MWC Tournament May 13-14. St. Norbert and Beloit finish its series at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mel Nicks Field.

The Green Knights scored three runs in the first inning of the opener thanks to a three-run home run by Garrick Fisher, and were in complete control throughout the rest of the game. Chris Hillesheim's RBI double in the fourth made it 4-1. Fisher added an RBI double, Jared Yost a two-run triple and Ryan Way an RBI single in the seventh for an 8-2 lead and effectively clinch the contest.

Josh Honzik tossed his second complete-game win of the week, allowing just five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Fisher, Matt Hannon and Jordan Powers all had three hits. Yost, Way and Kyle Johnsen all had two hits apiece, as the Green Knights had 16 hits in the game.

St. Norbert had 11 hits in the nightcap but stranded 10 runners en route to the loss. Fisher and Yost had RBI singles in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Beloit answered with three in the second, but St. Norbert got three in the fourth on an outfield error and a two-run single by Hannon. Beloit would score single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie it and Jake Tresemer's two-out double in the bottom of the ninth won it for the Buccaneers.

Fisher was 3-for-5 for St. Norbert, while Powers and Chad Ljunggren were both 2-for-5. Kyle Mahlik took the loss with an inning of relief.
