St. Norbert Wins Two of Three on Weekend Trip

WINONA, Minn. - St. Norbert College won two of three dual meets on a weekend trip through western Wisconsin and Minnesota to end the spring portion of its season.

The Green Knights lost to UW-River Falls 5-4 before beating St. Mary's University and UW-Stout both by 7-2 scores.

St. Norbert pulled out several close matches in singles action against St. Mary's. Kelly Van Handel topped Andrea Allis 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 1 singles, while Callie Schroeder picked up a 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 win at No. 3. Ariel Bloniarz beat Rachel Luetmer 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4. Laura Michel topped Tina Wahl 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5, followed by a 6-1, 6-3 win by Brittany Dudzik over Grace Zachman at No. 6.

In doubles play, Michel and Maria Slusarek beat Luetmer and Zachman 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, followed by an 8-3 win for Bloniarz and Stephanie Marek over Wahl and Deanne Weber.

Against Stout, St. Norbert swept the doubles points for a 3-0 lead - highlighted by 8-4 wins by Van Handel and Schroeder at No. 1 and Marek and Bloniarz at No. 3.

Slusarek earned a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 win over Stephanie Schick at No. 2 singles, while Michel skunked Natasha Haywood 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.

Against River Falls, St. Norbert's top singles match came in a 6-3, 6-2 win by Dudzik over Devon Marie Pfab at No. 6. Marek and Bloniarz earned St. Norbert's lone doubles point with an 8-3 win at No. 3 over Taylor Nelson and Courtney Swanson.
