St. Norbert Finishes Fourth at MWC Singles/Doubles Tournament

MADISON - St. Norbert College finished in fourth place at the Midwest Conference Singles/Doubles Tournament at the University of Wisconsin's Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Green Knights, who finished tied for third at the MWC Team Tournament, totaled 41 points. League champion Grinnell College had the highest point total with 93, followed by Lake Forest College with 75 and Monmouth College with 60.

St. Norbert had three singles players advance to the semifinals of their respective flights. Matt Lobeck topped Knox College's David Ham 6-4, 6-3 in a No. 3 flight quarterfinal before losing to Lake Forest's Elliot Muth 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals. Josh Sweere beat Knox's Max Gatyas 6-1, 6-4 in a No. 5 quarterfinal before falling 6-1, 6-0 to Grinnell's Ishan Bhadkamkar. At No. 6, Kyle Sauer beat Ripon's David Garcia 6-0, 6-0 before losing by the same score in the semifinals to Lake Forest's Anthony Warren.

Nick Acosta won his consolation final 8-2 at the No. 4 flight over Lawrence University's Jeremy Andereck. Tim Hartwick fell 8-6 in the consolation final at No. 2 to Carroll University's Seth Pamperin.

Hartwick and Danny Meicher lost to Grinnell's Colin Johnson and Michael Cole 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals of No. 2 doubles. Hartwick and Meicher had beaten Knox's David Ham and Kenton Tilford 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Lobeck and Sweere won their No. 3 quarterfinal over Lawrence's Bile Ali and Roy Wilmer 6-1, 6-4. The duo then fell in the semifinals to Grinnell's Bhadkamkar and Martin Dluhos 6-1, 6-0.

Acosta and Derek Harrington won the No. 1 consolation finals with an 8-6 win over Carroll's Matt Zellner and Kevin Rasmussen.
