Gobert 17th After Decathlon's First Day, Schneider Misses Long Jump Cut

DELAWARE, Ohio - St. Norbert College had mixed results on the first day of the 2011 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Ohio Wesleyan University.

St. Norbert's Jordan Gobert is sitting in 17th place in the decathlon through five events. Dann Schneider missed the cut to the nine-man finals in the long jump with a top jump of 21 feet 7 1/4 inches. Schneider was seventh in his flight.

Gobert started the decathlon strong piling up 774 points in the 100-meter dash with a sprint of 11.40 seconds. He then put up totals of 593 points (19-9 1/2) in the long jump, 572 points (37-6) in the shot put and 536 points (5-6 1/2) in the high jump. Gobert's last event of the day gave him 676 points with a 53.12 seconds in the 400 meters.

Gobert will finish the decathlon with the 110-meter high hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin throw and the 1,500-meter run starting at 1 p.m. EDT Friday.
