Vanden Avond Shines as Green Knights Win Opener Over Lakeland

PLYMOUTH - St. Norbert College freshman Katie Vanden Avond scored four goals in her first collegiate game as the Green Knights rolled to a 6-0 non-conference win over Lakeland College at Muskie Field.

Vanden Avond tied a school record with her four goals, becoming the seventh player in school history - and the first in four years - to score that many times in one game.

Vanden Avond scored unassisted 6 minutes 47 seconds into the game and followed with another score at 16:01. Elly Wiebusch scored at 22:45 off an assist from Zoe Kurth, and Vanden Avond scored her third marker at 25:29 with an unassisted score for a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Brittany Kosobucki set up Vanden Avond for her fourth score at the 49:28 mark. Stephanie Raab closed out the scoring at 81:57 with a goal assisted by Addie Buechler.

St. Norbert held a commanding 39-12 lead in shots, including 21-3 in the first half. The Green Knights also had a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.

Sarah Platzer made five saves to record the shutout in her first collegiate game. Ashley Sarbacker made 20 stops for the Muskies.
