Green Knights Extend UW-Whitewater to Five Sets But Lose to Warhawks, Wheaton

WHITEWATER - St. Norbert College pushed Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference pre-season favorite UW-Whitewater to five sets but lost to the Warhawks 25-16, 16-25, 25-21, 19-25, 16-14 in the final match of the UW-Whitewater Tournament.

The Warhawks (4-0) are ranked 24th in the AVCA Division III Top 25, and were picked to win the WIAC this season by the league's sports information directors. St. Norbert fell to 1-3.

The Green Knights held a 10-8 lead in the decisive fifth set before the Warhawks rattled off five straight points to take a 13-10 lead. St. Norbert answered with three straight points of its own to tie it at 13-13. The two teams traded points for a 14-14 tie before the Warhawks scored the last two points of the match to seal the win.

St. Norbert got 10 kills apiece from Breanne Brocker and Danielle Remy. Carley Valentine had 24 assists. The Green Knights totaled 94 digs, with Catherine Guido totaling 29 with Mary Kate Manion and Brocker getting 16 apiece. Remy added six blocks.

Earlier in the day, Wheaton College beat St. Norbert 25-23, 25-18, 25-16.
