DE PERE - St. Norbert College freshman Katie Vanden Avond scored her second collegiate hat trick in as many career games to lift the Green Knights to a 3-2 overtime win over UW-River Falls in a non-conference game at Schneider Stadium.

Vanden Avond, who has seven goals in her two games, netted the game-winner on a top-shelf blast from about 20 yards out just 2 minutes 46 seconds into overtime. St. Norbert improved to 2-0 overall, while River Falls dropped to 0-2.

The Green Knights forced overtime when Katherine Larson fed a perfect cross out front to Vanden Avond, whose one-time kick in the air found the net with 10:18 left in regulation play.

Following a scoreless first half, St. Norbert scored first when Vanden Avond won a one-on-the-goaltender battle 2:47 into the second half. The Falcons answered with a breakaway of their own, when Eryn Lansverk scored at 55:38. River Falls took a 2-1 lead at 61:26 on Janae Baron's score.

River Falls outshot St. Norbert 12-7 and held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Falcons had 10 fouls to the Green Knights' three. Sarah Platzer made three saves in net for the Green Knights, while Rachel Thompson had one stop in net for River Falls.
