St. Norbert Clinches MWC Team Tournament Berth

WAUKESHA - St. Norbert College clinched a berth in the Midwest Conference Women's Tennis Team Championship Tournament with a 5-4 win over Carroll University at Jean Kilgour Court.

The Green Knights improved to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in the MWC North Division and faces Lawrence University at 1 p.m. Sunday for the North Division title. Regardless of the outcome, both St. Norbert and Lawrence will be in the MWC Team Tournament Friday at Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford, Ill.

The match came down to a thrilling three-set affair between St. Norbert's Calile Schroeder and Carroll's Kate Rasmussen. Rasmussen claimed the first set 6-4, but Schroeder answered with wins of 6-4 and 6-3 in the final two sets to pull out the team match win.

The Green Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles action. Kelly Van Handel and Nancy Chybowski topped the Pioneers' Alyssa Larson and Kate Wiseman 8-3 at No. 1. Maria Slusarek and Laura Michel topped Kara Paroubek and Erin Bowman 8-6 at No. 2. Schroeder and Maggie Berens beat Abigail Pellett and Megan Rosenberg 8-6 at No. 3.

St. Norbert got its only other singles win at the No. 6 flight, with Slusarek beating Wiseman 6-1, 6-2.
