Green Knights Win MWC North Division With Win Over Lawrence

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College claimed its first Midwest Conference North Division championship since 2007 with a thrilling 5-4 win over Lawrence University at Western Racquet Club.

The Green Knights improved to 11-3 overall and finished a perfect 4-0 in MWC North Division play. Lawrence, which had its only previous loss this season come to UW-Eau Claire 5-4 on Oct. 2, fell to 10-2, 3-1. St. Norbert will face Lake Forest College at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Boylan Tennis Center in a MWC Team Tournament semifinal match.

The Green Knights were able to pull out the match when Anna Reardon finished off Lawrence's Hannah Geoffrey in two sets at No. 5 singles. Reardon won the first set 7-5 and then claimed the second set 7-6 after winning the decisive tiebreaker 7-5.

Callie Schroeder also pulled out a key win in singles action, claiming a 6-0, 1-6, 6-2 triumph over Gayatri Malhotra at No. 3. Nancy Chybowski won the Green Knights' other point in singles action with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jennifer Roesch at No. 2.

St. Norbert opened the match by taking two doubles points. Maria Slusarek and Laura Michel beat Geoffrey and Christina Schaupp 8-3 at No. 2. Schroeder and Maggie Berens beat Gayatri Malhotra and Polly Dalton 9-7 at No. 3.
