Green Knights Open Season With Win at Concordia

MEQUON - St. Norbert College, ranked No. 1 in the U.S. College Hockey Online Division III Poll, won its season opener for the 12th consecutive season with an 8-0 non-conference win over Concordia University of Wisconsin at Ozaukee Ice Center.

The Green Knights took a 3-0 lead after one period and a 6-0 advantage after two periods. Johan Ryd scored the game's first goal and registered his tenth career game-winning goal in the process with a score 6 minutes 28 seconds into the game. Brandon Hoogenboom and Seth Soley scored at 14:17 and 18:40 in the first period for a 3-0 edge.

Soley scored twice in the second period, sandwiched around a Sam Higgins goal, to give the Green Knights their first hat trick since January 2009. Brett Bower and Chris Rial both scored in the third period, joining Higgins by all recording their first collegiate goals.

Ryd added two assists and Alain Joanette had three assists to give them both three-point games. Emil Haque and Ashton Reinboldt also had two assists each.

Travis Bosch earned the win in his first start, making nine saves in the first 40 minutes, and also turned away a penalty shot in the second period. David Jacobson made seven saves in the third period for St. Norbert.

The Green Knights held a 55-16 edge in shots on goal, and both teams were 0-for-4 on the power play.
