Vanden Avond, Kurth, Detrie Earn Major Midwest Conference Awards

DE PERE - St. Norbert College freshman forward Katie Vanden Avond, sophomore defender Zoe Kurth and coach Dennis Detrie were all bestowed with major post-season awards by the Midwest Conference on this year's All-Conference Team.

Vanden Avond was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year in the league along with Lawrence University's Mallory Koula. Kurth was picked as the MWC's Defensive Player of the Year. Detrie earned his first MWC Coach of the Year honor after leading the Green Knights to a share of the league championship.

Vanden Avond, also a first-team all-conference selection, set school records this season in goals and points. Vanden Avond finished the year with 28 goals and eight assists for 64 points, with six of her goals going for game-winners.

Kurth was also named a first-team All-MWC pick, and scored three goals and five assists in 11 games.

Senior forward Katherine Larson was St. Norbert's third first-team all-conference honoree, scoring 11 goals and five assists for 27 points.

Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Platzer was a second-team all-conference selection, finishing the year with an 11-8-1 record, five shutouts and a 1.77 goals against average.

Junior defender Jaci Kulow was an honorable mention all-conference choice after scoring two assists for two points in 20 games.

St. Norbert finished the season 11-8-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the Midwest Conference to share the league championship with Carroll University and Grinnell College.
