St. Norbert Shoots Past Carroll

WAUKESHA - St. Norbert College shot 52.3 percent from the floor en route to a 69-58 Midwest Conference win over Carroll University at Van Male Fieldhouse.

The Green Knights, who have won 38 of their last 39 games against Midwest Conference opponents, improved to 8-3 overall and 6-0 in the MWC. Carroll dropped to 2-8, 1-4.

St. Norbert canned 23 of 44 shots from the floor to rally from a 7-0 deficit to start the game. Carroll led 42-38 with 16 minutes 11 seconds remaining in the game, but the Green Knights would rebound on an 8-0 run to take a 46-42 lead with 13:22 to go on a Krista Hawkinson free throw. The Pioneers would answer with a four-straight points to tie the game at 46-46 with 11:39 left, but Lana Tomashek's 3-pointer with 10:25 left would put St. Norbert ahead to stay.

The Green Knights, who trailed 34-32 at halftime, were led by Hawkinson's 19 points and eight rebounds. Krista Pelky added 13 points and six assists, while Sara Van Hemelryk had a career-high 11 points.

St. Norbert was 7-for-11 (63.6 percent) from beyond the three-point arc but shot just 50 percent at the free-throw line, making only 16 of 32 charity tosses. The Green Knights held a 35-25 rebounding advantage and had only 12 turnovers.

Carroll shot 47.2 percent (25-for-53) from the floor but only got to the free-throw line seven times, making four. Janelle Groer led the Pioneers with 17 points and six assists, while Emily DeNoyer added 13 points and Breann Maryanski 10.
