St. Norbert Shoots Down Monmouth

DE PERE - St. Norbert College shot 55.6 percent from the floor en route to a 77-63 Midwest Conference win over Monmouth College at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (12-7, 9-5 MWC) canned 30 of 54 shots from the floor and shot a lusty 66.7 percent (18-for-27) in the second half. Monmouth (5-13, 3-10 MWC) shot 47.8 percent (22-for-46) from the floor but was doomed by 18 turnovers.

St. Norbert led by as many as nine points in the first half at 33-24 with 1 minute 33 seconds left on a pair of Andy Fox free throws. The Scots answered with five points in the last minute to trail 33-29 at halftime.

The Green Knights led 45-39 with 13:43 left before going on a 12-1 run to put the game away. Jack Whalen had two hoops and a 3-pointer to fuel the run, capped off by Trent Monckton's hoop for a 57-40 lead with 9:36 to go. St. Norbert would lead by as many as 20 points, and would never hold less than a 12-point edge the rest of the game.

Whalen finished with a career-high 17 points coming off the bench for St. Norbert. Andrew Schwoerer finished with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Brandon Gries had 13 poitns, six assists and four rebounds.

Monmouth got 17 points from Kendall Cox, while Cody Hillier finished with 10 points.
