St. Norbert Opens Season Against Michigan Tech, Carthage

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College opened the 2012 men's tennis season with losses to Michigan Tech and Carthage College.

The Green Knights dropped their opener to the Division II Huskies 9-0 before suffering a narrow 5-4 loss to Carthage.

St. Norbert split the six singles matches with the Red Men but dropped two of three doubles matches to get a narrow loss. Travis Buechel and Nate Gosz picked up the Green Knights' lone doubles win with an 8-6 triumph over Alex McLean and Conor Moon.

Derek Harrington picked up a big singles win at the No. 1 flight, topping Carthage's regionally ranked Jeff Lotz 6-4, 6-1. Matt Lobeck beat Matt Whiteside 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, while Josh Sweere beat Nick Boomgarden 6-14, 1-6, 10-2 at No. 5.
