St. Norbert Takes Third Place at MWC Indoor Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - St. Norbert College compiled a third-place finish at the Midwest Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship held at Illinois College.

The Green Knights finished with 97 points. Monmouth College won the league championship with 208 points, while Carroll University was second with 125 points. Illinois College placed fourth with 86 points.

Justin Johnson finished in first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 seconds. Johnson's preliminary time of 8.25 seconds was good for ninth-best time in NCAA Division III this year at the time of the race.

Nathan Heppe had a pair of second-place showings in the 800-meter and 1-mile run. Heppe ran the 800 in a time of 1:58.31, while he ran the mile in a time of 4:26.71. Brent Schreiber added a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet 3 1/2 inches.

Mike Verfuerth was third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.76 seconds, and he finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 21-7 1/2.

A trio of St. Norbert relays placed third. The 4x400-meter relay had a time of 3:29.86, the 1,600-meter sprint medley ran a 3:39.03, and the distance medley finished in 10:44.96.

Joe McArdle carded a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 45-3. Bryon Betts was fourth in the weight throw of 47-8 1/2.

Jake Schneider was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.05.
