St. Norbert Sweeps Beloit to Open MWC Play

BELOIT - The St. Norbert College women's softball team got its Midwest Conference season off to a good start with an 11-2, 11-3 sweep of Beloit College at the Strong Stadium Complex.

The Green Knights, the defending Midwest Conference champion, improved to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in the league. Beloit fell to 3-15, 0-2.

St. Norbert broke open a close game in the opener. The Green Knights led 1-0 after five innings before scoring six times in the sixth inning and four runs in the seventh inning.

The Green Knights pounded out five hits in the sixth inning. Jes Van Hout had a bases-loaded walk to forcein a run, and Alyssa McGray followed with a two-run single. Julie Hayes, Tracy Palmer and Sam Boushley each added RBI singles later in the inning.

In the seventh, Van Hout had an RBI double, Hayes a sacrifice fly and Palmer stroked a two-run home run to finish off the scoring.

Mara Resch scattered eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts to earn the complete-game victory. Palmer was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Boushley, Hayes and Brieanne Oehlke each added two hits.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert scored in all four of its at bats, picking up the win as the home team.

The Green Knights led 3-1 after two innings before scoring four times in both the third and fourth innings. Van Hout laced an RBI single, followed by a Tracy Palmer two-run single later in the third. Oehlke, Van Hout and McGray each had RBI singles in the fourth inning.

Kayla Krueger picked up the win in the nightcap, allowing three hits with four strikeouts. Van Hout was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs in game two.
