Green Knights Split at Ripon

RIPON - St. Norbert College kept its hold on first place in the Midwest Conference North Division with a doubleheader split with Ripon College at Tracy Field. The Green Knights won the opener 4-2 before dropping the nightcap 4-3.

St. Norbert (12-15, 5-1 MWC) rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the opener with single runs in each of the last three innings. Morgan Buboltz had an RBI groundout in the fifth inning to tie the game. Ashtin Schmechel had a go-ahead single with two outs in the sixth for a 3-2 lead. Brittany Bauknecht then hit an RBI single in the seventh for an insurance run.

Shannen Schmidt held Ripon (16-11, 4-2 MWC) to just two hits in the complete-game effort. She yielded just one run and two walks with three strikeouts.

Schmechel and Samantha Gross were both 2-for-3 to lead the Green Knights.

St. Norbert allowed Ripon to score a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and had to settle for the split.

Brittany Narges had an RBI double in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1, while Abby Gildernick pushed St. Norbert ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning. Buboltz's solo home run in the fifth gave the Green Knights a 3-1 lead.

Narges, Buboltz, Gross and MacKenzie Hazen all had two hits apiece for the Green Knights. Morgan Rusch took the loss, allowing 10 hits with no walks and one strikeout.
