Green Knights Place Second at MWC Outdoors for First Time Since 2006

DE PERE - St. Norbert College placed second in the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Team Championship for the first time since 2006 with a strong second-day showing at Kolstad Field at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights compiled 135 points to finished 20 points ahead of third-place Carroll University's 115 points. Monmouth College won the title for the 12th consecutive year, finishing with 230 points.

St. Norbert picked up a pair of outstanding performer of the meet nods, with Justin Johnson getting a track spot and Mike Verfuerth earning mention among field contestants.

Johnson won the 110- and 400-meter hurdles. Johnson set a MWC record by winning the 110 going away in a time of 14.33 seconds. Johnson's time of 53.89 seconds in the 400 also led to a comfortable win. Johnson added a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 23.93 seconds.

Verfuerth was third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.40 seconds. Verfuerth, who won the long jump in Friday's action, also placed third in the triple jump with a length of 44-7 1/2.

Randy Hill placed second in the high jump and triple jump. Hill cleared a height of 6-6 3/4 in the high jump, and finished with a distance of 44-8 in the triple jump.

Benny Swift placed second in the 800-meter run in 1:55.03. Nathan Heppe was fourth in 1:56.39, while Jake Schneider was seventh in 1:57.33.

Taylor Pasterski was third in the 400-meter dash in 48.77 seconds, and he was fifth in the 200-meter dash in 22.80 seconds.

Brent Schreiber was fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.07 seconds. Schreiber added a seventh-place finish in the high jump at 6-0 3/4.

Andrew Hull was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.97 seconds. In the 5,000-meter run, Michael Heise was fifth in 15:40.15, and Logan Jadin placed sixth in 15:42.72.

St. Norbert had two placewinners in the discus, with Bryon Betts finishing sixth (133-5) and Dan Sisler eighth (130-5). Mike Linzmeier was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:55.12.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Pasterski, Johnson, Tyler Seidl and Schreiber finished in second plcae in 42.50 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay of Pasterski, Jake Schneider, Hull and Ryan Ascher was third in a time of 3:23.58.
