CLAREMONT, Calif. - St. Norbert College freshman Justin Johnson had the top time during qualifying in preliminary heats at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges' Burns Track Complex.

Johnson ran a time of 14.15 seconds to top the 20-man field of entrants. The only other time within two-tenths of a second of Johnson's time was the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's Adam Scalesse, who ran a time of 14.26 seconds.

The 110-meter hurdles finals is set for 4:15 p.m. CDT Saturday. Johnson is aiming for St. Norbert's first male NCAA track and field national champion since Colin McKean won the indoor 800-meter run in 2004.

The NCAA Division III championship record in the event is 13.86 seconds set in 1993 by Lincoln University's Shannon Flowers.
