Ryd Named First-Team At-Large CoSIDA Academic All-Distrrict

DE PERE - St. Norbert College senior hockey player Johan Ryd has been named to the first team of the Capital One At-Large NCAA Division III Academic All-District VI squad, presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Ryd, a Sodertalje, Sweden, native, owns a 3.41 grade point average with a major in political science. Ryd was the team's leading scorer this past year, posting 15 goals and 25 assists for 40 points as the Green Knights won their second consecutive NCAA Division III national championship. Ryd was a first-team All-America selection in 2012 by the American Hockey Coaches Association and U.S. College Hockey Online.com and was also the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association's Player of the Year. Ryd finished his career with 37 goals and 61 assists for 98 points in 90 games.

The at-large team encompasses student-athletes from the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

To be eligible for national or regional selection, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director. The Academic All-America team, scheduled to be announced June 5, is selected after All-District teams are picked from eight geographic regions nationally.
