St. Norbert Douses Prairie Fire

GALESBURG, Ill. - St. Norbert College wrapped up its weekend swing through West Central Illinois with a 5-1 men's tennis win over Knox College.

The Green Knights improved to 11-12 overall on the season after winning the non-conference match against a Midwest Conference foe. The dual was played to a decision in a first-to-five points format.

St. Norbert swept all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 advantage entering singles action. Chris Schmitz and Mike Hyrczyk won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles over Josh Moten and Sam Gagnard. Eric Koppmann and Dan Richter beat Nick Craig and Matthew Stockov at No. 3 doubles 8-4. Adrian Acosta and Ryan Kerswill claimed a triumph at No. 1 doubles, beating Jared Katchen and Lance Hoffman 8-5.

Schmitz picked up a win at No. 2 singles over Hoffman, winning 6-0, 6-2. The Green Knights also won at No. 5 singles, with Koppmann beating Craig 6-1, 6-2.

Matches at Nos. 4 and 6 singles were not played, while the No. 3 singles match was unfinished.
