Green Knights Bounce Back, 10-Run Beloit Twice

BELOIT - St. Norbert College rebounded from its first Midwest Conference loss of the season in a big way, routing Beloit College 17-3 and 15-5 at Strong Stadium in a pair of games shortened to seven innings by the 10-run mercy rule.

St. Norbert, which had a 27-game winning streak in the series snapped the previous day, is now 11-6 overall and 3-1 in the Midwest Conference. Beloit fell to 13-9, 3-5.

The Green Knights had several big innings during the doubleheader. St. Norbert broke open a 2-1 game in the first game with a five-run fourth and nine-run fifth.

St. Norbert scored five runs on three hits in the fourth inning, getting runs on an Adam Frost RBI single, a two-run single by Alex Byrne, a Beloit error, and a bases-loaded hit batsman. In the fifth, Jared Yost socked a three-run home run and Jordan Stauber ripped a two-run double to key the nine-run uprising.

Jake Gasser improved to 3-1, allowing four hits in six innings of work. Stauber was 4-for-4 with four runs scored in the opener, while Frost was 3-for-5 ith three RBIs to help key a 13-hit attack.

St. Norbert continued the onslaught in the nightcap, scoring seven runs in the second inning to take a 7-1 advantage. Stauber had a two-run single in the second, while Mike Wallerich added a two-run home run.

Cory Fuller was 5-for-5 in the nightcap, including a double. Ryan Gusick was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple. Yost was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for St. Norbert, which had 15 hits in the game.

Trevin Hillesheim improved to 4-0 on the season with six solid innings, allowing five hits with five walks and six strikeouts.

St. Norbert did not commit an error defensively in the doubleheader.
