St. Norbert Wins Tournament Behind Sweep of UW-Eau Claire

DE PERE - St. Norbert College claimed the championship of its own tournament despite splitting a pair of matches against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (13-7) dropped a five-set match to UW-Superior 14-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-13, 15-9 before bouncing back to top Eau Claire 25-21, 25-23, 25-22. St. Norbert, Eau Claire and Carthage College all went 3-1 in the tournament, but the Green Knights claimed the tournament title by winning a least points allowed tiebreaker.

St. Norbert was in control against Eau Claire for the duration of the match, and hit a robust .270 with 49 kills against 18 errors in 115 attempts. Danielle Remy and Breanne Brocker both had 13 kills, and Brocker added 11 digs. Abby West had 37 assists, and Catherine Guido had 16 digs. Heidi Spies finished with six blocks and Remy added five.

The Green Knights held a two-set lead against Superior but slumped offensively in the final three sets. Remy had 12 kills, Spies 11 and Brocker and Mary Kate Manion had 10 apiece. Guido had 26 digs, and Brocker and Manion had 22 apiece. West finished with 36 assists and 14 digs. Spies and West had four blocks each.

Manion and Remy were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
