Green Knights Finish Fourth at MWC Singles/Doubles Tournament

MADISON - St. Norbert College finished fourth in the team standings at the Midwest Conference Singles/Doubles Tournament held at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Green Knights, who finished in a tie for third in the conference team tournament, totaled 45 points. Conference champion Grinnell College posted 96 points.

Brittany Dudzik was the lone St. Norbert netter to reach the championship finals of her flight, falling 6-3, 6-2 to Grinnell's Julia Rumley at No. 6 singles.

Maria Slusarek advanced to the semifinals at No. 3 singles before dropping a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Carroll University's Alyssa Larson. Maggie Berens also made it to the semifinals before falling to Carroll's Julia Patzin 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5.

Slusarek and Nancy Chybowski advanced to the semifinals at No. 1 doubles before losing to eventual champion Shirlene Luk and Clothilde Thirouin of Grinnell College 6-0, 6-4. Berens and Ariel Bloniarz also lost to an eventual champion in the semifinals, dropping a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Grinnell's Hanna Feldman and Julia Rumley.

Four Green Knights claimed consolation championships. Chybowski beat Knox College's Dana Pierce 8-3 at No. 1 singles, while Bloniarz defeated Lawrence University's Gayatri Malhotra 8-2 at No. 2 singles. Emily Rasmussen and Laura Michel topped Knox's Emily Tyl and Aimee Neilan 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
