Green Knights Fall in Exhibition to UW-Green Bay

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College opened its 2012-13 season with an 83-63 exhibition loss to cross-town NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay at the Kress Events Center.

The Green Knights had a solid first half offensively, connecting of 16 of 29 shots before halftime to trail 44-39. A 3-pointer by Brandon Gries and a basket by Steven Hofacker put St. Norbert ahead 18-12 with 14:13 left in the first half.

Green Bay countered to go on a 16-2 run to take a 28-20 lead with 9:26 to go before halftime, and led by as much as 10 in the first half twice. Jeremy Paprocki canned three 3-pointers before the break to bring the Green Knights to within five at the break.

The Phoenix opened the second half by scoring on its first four possessions to take a 52-39, and didn't turn back from there, opening as much as a 27-point lead.

Andrew Schwoerer led St. Norbert with 14 points, while Garrett Thorn added 10 points and Paprocki nine. The Green Knights shot 41.7 percent from the floor, making 25 of 60 field goals. St. Norbert trailed by only four on the glass, getting outrebounded 35-31. St. Norbert limited its turnovers to 12, and had 16 assists - including eight by Andy Fox.

Green Bay had four scorers in double figures. NBA prospect Alec Brown, a 7-foot-1 center, had 18 points on 9 of 11 shooting from the floor. Brennan Cougill added 16 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Kam Cerroni and Keifer Sykes chipped in with 11 points apiece.
