St. Norbert Sweeps UW-Stevens Point

DE PERE - St. Norbert College won for the ninth time in its last 10 games with an impressive 3-1 win over UW-Stevens Point in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (14-9-2, 12-7-1 NCHA) clinched the No. 5 seeding for the NCHA O'Brien Cup Playoffs and will travel to UW-Superior for a quarterfinal series next weekend.

Stevens Point (11-11-3, 9-8-3) drew first blood with a goal by Janel Winters at the 10:54 mark of the first period.

St. Norbert answered quickly in the second period. Lauren Roethlisberger converted a 5-on-3 power-play chance at the 2:03 mark of the second period. Stephanie Slinde followed with an unassisted even-strength marker at 3:46.

The Green Knights extended their lead with a goal by Henriette Ostergaard with Slinde assisting at 5:45 of the third period. Stevens Point had an extra attacker on for the last 3:38 of the game, but couldn't draw closer.

Stevens Point outshot St. Norbert 52-34, but Kaley Gibson made 51 saves in net for the Green Knights. Janna Beilke-Skoug made 31 saves for the Pointers. St. Norbert was 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Pointers were 0-for-4.
