Green Knights Claim First Dual Win With Triumph Over Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa - St. Norbert College picked up its first dual win of the season with a 7-2 non-conference conquest of the University of Dubuque at the Chlapaty Rec and Wellness Center.

The Green Knights got the match off to a good start by sweeping all three doubles points. Nick Acosta and Tim Hartwick topped Demetrius Johnson and Shawn Iben 8-6 and No. 1, followed by Matt Lobeck and Casey Brice's 8-3 win over Dishon Deering and Andrew Drummond at No. 2. Travis Buechel and Nate Gosz finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory over Nikolay Gospodinov and Trevod Calahan at No. 3.

Lobeck topped Johnson 6-4, 7-6 at No. 1 singles, followed by Acosta defeating Deering 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3. Buechel and Gosz both claimed 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, over Calahan and Drummond.

St. Norbert opened the weekend with an 8-1 non-conference loss at Grinnell College. Gosz and Buechel topped Aaron Lapkin and Charlie Wilhelm 9-7 at No. 3 doubles for the Green Knights' lone win.

The Green Knights dropped a 5-4 decision to Hastings College at Grinnell. Buechel and Gosz defeated Joe Ritzdorf and Kolby Matheny 8-4 at No. 3 doubles for St. Norbert's lone doubles points. Acosta defeated Isaac Mertens 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, followed by Buechel's 6-0, 6-3 win over Matheny at No. 5. Gosz topped Leland Dexter 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
