Green Knights Rally for Win Over Washington College

LEESBURG, Fla. - St. Norbert College erased a six-run deficit to post an 11-6 win over Washington (Md.) College at Pat Thomas Stadium.

The Green Knights (3-2) trailed 6-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before erupting for 11 unanswered runs. St. Norbert scored twice in the sixth inning, five times in the seventh and four more times in the eighth to get the win.

The Shoremen (4-5) jumped ahead by scoring two runs in the first inning, one in the fifth and three runs in the sixth for a 6-0 lead. Four of Washington's runs were unearned against St. Norbert starter Travis Mason, who allowed seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

St. Norbert scored two runs in the sixth on a Shoremen error, and then took the lead with five runs on three hits in the seventh. Nick Pierre had a two-run single, and Alex Larsen followed with a sacrifice fly. Chad Ljunggren's two-out, two-run single gave the Green Knights the lead for good at 7-6.

The Green Knights added four insurance runs in the eighth inning. Pierre had an RBI double, and Bryan Thiessenhusen drove in two runs on a single. A third run scored on an outfield error on Thiessenhusen's hit.

St. Norbert totaled nine hits. Pierre was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Ljunggren also had two hits, and Thiessenhusen totaled three RBIs. Matt Zacharias earned his first collegiate win, throwing 2 1/3 hitless innings of relief with three strikeouts and no walks.
