KENOSHA - St. Norbert College claimed the second game of a non-conference doubleheader to gain a split with Carthage College at chilly Carthage Field. The Lady Reds won the opener 9-1 in six innings before the Green Knights rebounded to take the second game 5-3.

St. Norbert (8-6) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of the nightcap when Jessica DeMeuse scored Steph Brunette on an RBI single. Carthage (11-5) scored single runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-1 lead, but the Green Knights answered with four runs in the fifth inning.

With a runner on third base and two outs, St. Norbert strung together four consecutive hits to mount the rally. Tayler Long's single tied the game at 2-2. Brunette singled to put runners at first and second, and Samantha Gross followed with a single to make it 3-2. Brunette and Gross each advanced a base on the throw to the plate, and Morgan Buboltz stroked a two-run single to right field for a 5-2 advantage.

Carthage would score once in the bottom of the fifth inning but would draw no closer.

St. Norbert had nine hits in the nightcap, and was led by Brunette's 3-for-4 performance. Morgan Rusch improved to 5-2 on the season by earning a complete-game win. Rusch scattered seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

In the opener, Carthage slowly pulled away behind a 15-hit attack. St. Norbert scored its only run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Buboltz. The Green Knights had just six hits in the game off winning pitcher Krystina Leazer. Shannen Schmidt took the loss for St. Norbert, striking out six.
