Pentek Leads St. Norbert to Third-Place Finish

GALESBURG, Ill. - Jeff Pentek was named one of the Track Performers of the Year to help St. Norbert College to a third-place finish at the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Knox College.

The Green Knights totaled 98 points to place in the top three in the league for the seventh-straight year. Monmouth won the championship with 267 points, followed by runner-up Illinois College's 133 points.

Pentek won the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs. Pentek won the 5K with a time of 15:07.71, and added the 10K championship with a time of 32:23.68.

Paul Leeman fared well in the jumps with a couple of top-four finishes. Leeman was second in the triple jump with a leap of 45 feet, 11 1/4 inches to provisionally qualify him for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship. Leeman was fourth in the long jump at 21-7 1/2.

St. Norbert's 4x100-meter relay team placed third at 43.08 seconds. Dustin Dessell, Josh Zweiger, Tom Georgia and Dann Schneider ran on the 4x100 team. The 4x400-meter relay team of Georgia, John Barrett, Ham Dowden and Steve Schumacher was fourth at 3:29.56.

Zweiger and Alex Albers placed second and third, respectively, in the 110-meter high hurldes. Zweiger ran a time of 15.44 seconds and Albers was close behind at 15.97 seconds. Albers was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles at 59.30 seconds.

Aaron Roden placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:26.91. Schneider added a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash at 49.92 seconds, and was the only freshman in that event's finals.
